Morehead City, NC – A cold front will move through eastern North Carolina tonight, bringing a round of light rain and cooler air to start the week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Newport/Morehead City.

Forecasters expect showers to develop between 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday, with rain chances ranging from 40% inland to around 60% near the coast. Rainfall totals will be light — generally less than half an inch — before tapering off early Monday morning.

The brief rain event marks the passage of a fall cold front that will usher in drier, seasonable air for the upcoming week. Temperatures are expected to trend cooler Monday, with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.

While no severe weather is expected, the NWS advises motorists to use caution on wet roads during the overnight hours and early morning commute.
