Burlington, Vermont – Snow is expected to overspread northern New York and Vermont this evening, becoming steadier overnight and potentially creating slick travel conditions by Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service Burlington, snowfall will begin this evening and intensify overnight as an arctic front moves through the region. Storm total snowfall amounts of 1 to 4 inches are expected across much of the area by late Saturday morning, with localized variations depending on timing and intensity.

Snow is forecast to arrive first across northern New York during the evening, spreading east into Vermont overnight. Brief periods of moderate snowfall are possible near sunrise Saturday, especially as the front passes through. Snow may linger into midday Saturday in the Champlain Valley, while tapering off earlier in other locations.

Travel impacts are most likely along major corridors including Interstate 89, Interstate 87, Interstate 91, U.S. Route 2, and U.S. Route 7, where snow-covered roads and reduced visibility may develop during overnight and early morning hours. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads could become slick.

Forecasters also warn that gusty northwest winds Saturday may lead to areas of blowing snow, particularly in open areas and higher elevations. Even after snowfall ends, blowing snow could continue to reduce visibility and re-coat roadways.

Temperatures will remain cold enough for all snow, and any accumulation will persist through the morning commute. While snowfall totals are not expected to be heavy, the combination of timing, wind, and cold conditions increases the risk for travel disruptions.

Commuters, students, and weekend workers should plan for slower travel Saturday morning, allow extra time, and use caution on snow-covered roads. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.
