Birmingham, Alabama – Scattered storms and mid-summer heat are taking center stage across Alabama as highs soar into the upper 90s through Tuesday evening, with Montgomery and Tuscaloosa forecast to reach 98°F.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue developing this afternoon and again on Tuesday, especially in central and southeastern counties. Overnight lows will offer little relief, staying muggy in the mid to upper 70s across much of the state, including Birmingham, Selma, and Auburn.
Storms may bring brief heavy rainfall and gusty winds but will remain scattered, especially between I-65 and I-85 corridors. Cities like Gadsden, Clanton, and Eufaula should prepare for rapid changes in conditions, especially during peak heating hours. Flash flooding is not expected, but reduced visibility and slippery roads are possible with sudden downpours.
Alabamians are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat (noon–5 p.m.), and monitor forecasts for any sudden severe storm alerts. Utility usage may spike during the afternoon hours, and cooling shelters are open in Montgomery and Birmingham.
Scattered showers and high humidity will persist into Tuesday night. Additional advisories may be issued if storms become more widespread.
