Montgomery County, TX – A multi-agency law enforcement response unfolded late Monday morning after a man who allegedly fled a welfare check in Magnolia barricaded himself inside a McDonald’s bathroom in Pinehurst, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

According to deputies, units were initially dispatched to a cemetery in Magnolia on Monday, November 17, 2025, for a welfare check involving a man reportedly threatening suicide with a firearm. MCSO says the man allegedly evaded custody and drove into Harris County, prompting an Attempt to Locate alert broadcast to surrounding agencies.

At approximately 11:05 a.m., authorities were notified that the man was at a McDonald’s at 32323 Highway 249 in Pinehurst. Multiple units from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded and attempted to make contact with the individual, who had locked himself inside the bathroom.

According to investigators, the man allegedly told deputies he was armed and refused to surrender. During continued attempts to de-escalate the situation, deputies say the individual fired a single shot, injuring himself.

Authorities identified him as 21-year-old Shane Moresco. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office had previously accepted charges earlier Monday related to an unrelated incident, including Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Family Violence) and Evading Arrest in a Vehicle.

Moresco was transported by Montgomery County Hospital District medics to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The case remains under joint investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Rangers, and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
