Splendora, TX – A late-night ATV crash in a residential neighborhood led to the arrest of a Montgomery County man after an 8-year-old child was seriously injured and airlifted to a Houston hospital for treatment.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to an ATV crash in the 14000 block of Cedarwood Oaks Road in Splendora. When deputies arrived, they determined the crash was caused by reckless driving.

Investigators say 32-year-old Hunter Hudson was allegedly operating the ATV recklessly with a child passenger prior to the crash. Witnesses in the neighborhood reported observing dangerous driving behavior before the incident occurred.

The child sustained severe injuries and was initially transported to a local hospital. Due to the seriousness of those injuries, the child was later airlifted by helicopter to a Houston-area hospital for advanced medical care. Authorities say the child remains in stable condition.

Major Crimes Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and launched an investigation. Based on their findings, detectives obtained a warrant for Hudson on a charge of Felony Injury to a Child.

Hudson was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $100,000 bond, according to officials.

The sheriff’s office emphasized that ATV operation can be extremely dangerous, especially in residential areas, and urged riders to follow all safety guidelines and traffic laws. Officials noted that thousands of people nationwide are seriously injured or killed each year due to unsafe ATV practices.

The investigation remains active, and authorities say no additional information will be released at this time.
