New Caney, Texas – A nine-month homicide investigation has led to the arrest of a woman accused of killing her husband in a case that initially appeared to be a suicide, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say Breyanai Moore, 31, was arrested Tuesday, March 4, in connection with the 2025 death of her husband, 33-year-old Lonnie Moore. She is charged with murder and is being held in the Montgomery County Jail without bond.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 9 a.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2025, to the 23900 block of Northcrest Trail in New Caney after reports of an unresponsive man in a vehicle.

Investigators said deputies found Lonnie Moore inside a white vehicle parked along the side of the roadway with the engine still running. Authorities reported that the victim had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

While the circumstances initially suggested a possible suicide, detectives with the sheriff’s office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigators conducted a detailed forensic review of the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office, evidence discovered during the investigation contradicted the initial assessment of a self-inflicted wound, prompting detectives to pursue the case as a homicide.

Over the following months, investigators gathered evidence and pursued leads that allegedly identified Breyanai Moore as the suspect.

Major Crimes detectives, assisted by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Crime Reduction Unit, executed an arrest warrant on March 4, 2026, authorities said. Moore was taken into custody without incident.

The investigation remains active as authorities continue reviewing evidence and case details.

The case may draw attention among younger residents and commuters in the growing New Caney area, where rapid development has increased population and traffic in recent years.
