Montgomery County, TX – Drivers ringing in the New Year across Montgomery County are being urged to plan ahead as law enforcement launches a multi-day DWI enforcement effort beginning Tuesday night.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, a four-day, countywide New Year’s DWI Enforcement Task Force will run from Wednesday, December 31, 2025, through Saturday, January 3, 2026, with deputies and partner agencies conducting increased patrols throughout the county. The goal is to deter impaired driving and prevent deadly crashes during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Sheriff’s officials said deputies will be out “in full force,” specifically watching for signs of impaired driving during overnight and late-night hours. The operation follows a year in which law enforcement responded to numerous alcohol-related crashes, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that driving while intoxicated is not only dangerous but also costly. Officials warned that a $20 rideshare fare can prevent a DWI charge that may exceed $10,000 in fines, fees, and legal costs, not including the potential for jail time or loss of driving privileges.

Residents celebrating New Year’s Eve are encouraged to designate a sober driver, use rideshare services such as Uber or Lyft, stay where they are if they have been drinking, or call a trusted friend for a ride. Deputies also noted that new Texas laws have increased penalties for intoxication offenses, making enforcement and consequences more severe heading into 2026.

“Please be responsible,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a public statement, adding that deputies will be patrolling throughout the night.

Drivers who live in Montgomery County or are traveling through the Conroe–The Woodlands–Houston metro area are encouraged to allow extra time and make safe choices as celebrations begin.
