Montgomery County, TX – A retail theft sting in The Woodlands this week led to nine arrests and the recovery of approximately $6,000 in stolen merchandise, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
On Thursday, October 30, 2025, the Sheriff’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) conducted an organized operation at The Woodlands Mall and Pinecroft Shopping Center. Deputies worked with the Montgomery County Constable’s Office, the Department of Public Safety, and several retail loss prevention agents to target organized shoplifting groups operating across the area.
According to officials, five suspects were arrested for Felony Organized Retail Theft, while four others face Misdemeanor Shoplifting charges. Two organized theft crews were taken off the streets as a result of the coordinated effort.
One group allegedly ran a nationwide coupon fraud and return scheme, targeting Walmart and Marshalls in The Woodlands. Deputies say the suspects, both from California, were previously arrested in Lake County, CA, for similar crimes.
A second group—three female suspects claiming to be from Cuba—allegedly stole about $3,500 in merchandise from Academy Sports + Outdoors, Nordstrom, and JCPenney. Deputies say the stolen items included clothing, YETI and Stanley tumblers, and footwear.
The Sheriff’s Office said it remains committed to working with retail partners and law enforcement agencies to combat organized theft and protect local businesses.
