At 8:32 a.m., deputies were called to the Speedway on North Dixie Drive after a victim reported he had stopped to inflate a tire around 6 a.m. when an unknown man allegedly approached, pointed a handgun, and demanded his vehicle. The suspect then allegedly ordered the victim into the vehicle, entering the passenger seat as the suspect drove away.
The suspect reportedly drove the victim to the area of North Dixie Drive and National Road in Vandalia, where he instructed the victim to get out. A short time later, the stolen vehicle was spotted on West Third Street in Dayton. Detectives responded to the area of West Third Street and Gettysburg Avenue, locating the vehicle parked at a tire shop.
When deputies approached, the suspect fled on foot. According to the Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Trotwood Police Department and Dayton Police Department assisted in a brief pursuit before the suspect was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded handgun.
