Montgomery, AL – Three stranded boaters were rescued Sunday evening on the Alabama River after one person reportedly suffered a seizure, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
ALEA said its Marine Patrol Division and Aviation Unit teamed up on November 9 to locate the distressed group in Montgomery County. The boaters had run out of fuel, and their cell phone battery was nearly dead when they called for help.
According to the agency, the Marine Patrol quickly contacted ALEA’s Aviation Unit for aerial assistance. Within minutes, a helicopter crew spotted the stranded vessel roughly a mile from its last known position on Catoma Creek. Marine Patrol officers were then guided to the scene and transported all three individuals safely to shore for medical evaluation.
Officials credited the rapid coordination between ALEA’s divisions for preventing a potential tragedy on the water.
“Different divisions, one mission: protecting and serving the people of Alabama—especially when time is of the essence,” ALEA said in its statement.
