Montgomery, Alabama – A robbery suspect was killed and a state agent injured during a traffic stop Wednesday evening in Montgomery.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Special Agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation Major Crimes Unit launched an officer-involved shooting investigation after the incident involving Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit officers.

Authorities said the encounter began around 5:51 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, when MACS officers attempted to stop a vehicle connected to a suspect wanted for first-degree robbery. The vehicle allegedly refused to stop, leading to a brief pursuit before the suspect exited with a firearm and fled into a nearby shed in the 4000 block of Longleaf Drive.

ALEA said the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Jasdarrian O’Neal Clemons of Montgomery, allegedly fired at officers. MACS officers returned fire, striking Clemons. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

A Special Agent assigned to ALEA’s SWAT team, assisting MACS, was struck multiple times by gunfire and transported to a nearby hospital. Officials said the agent is expected to make a full recovery.

ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said the injured agent “is currently doing well” and credited responding federal, state and local agencies for their assistance.

The Alabama Attorney General’s Office will review the findings once the investigation is complete.

The shooting temporarily drew heavy law enforcement presence in the Longleaf Drive area, affecting nearby residents and commuters during the evening hours.
