Billings, MT – Strong crosswinds exceeding 50 mph are set to return to the foothills west of Billings on Thursday, bringing potential travel disruptions to high-profile vehicles. The National Weather Service warns that the most affected areas will include Livingston, Nye, Big Timber, and possibly Harlowton, where gusts could peak at 65 mph along portions of Interstate 90.

Motorists, especially those driving larger vehicles like trucks and RVs, are urged to consider delaying travel or choosing alternative routes. According to the NWS, wind impacts will likely begin early Thursday morning and could continue through late Thursday evening, with the Livingston and Beartooth foothills experiencing the strongest gusts.

The NWS forecasts a 95% chance of winds reaching at least 50 mph in Livingston, with a 70% likelihood of 60 mph gusts. In Big Timber, wind speeds could reach 55 mph with a 55% chance of high-intensity gusts. These strong winds could create hazardous driving conditions, particularly along I-90 and exposed roadways.

Friday: A partly sunny day with a high around 48°F, transitioning to evening rain and snow likely, with temperatures dropping to 32°F.

Saturday: Snow is expected before noon, with a high near 44°F. Travelers should anticipate icy conditions.

Sunday: Sunny skies return, high around 49°F, with diminishing winds.
