Glasgow, Montana – Drivers across northeast Montana could encounter slick, icy roads beginning late tonight as a round of mixed winter precipitation spreads across the region and lingers through Monday. Even light snow and ice could create hazardous travel during both the morning and evening commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. Sunday until 5 p.m. Monday for much of northeast Montana. Areas under the advisory include Valley, Daniels, Sheridan, Roosevelt, McCone, Richland, Dawson, and Wibaux counties.

Communities such as Glasgow, Sidney, Wolf Point, Poplar, Plentywood, Scobey, Culbertson, Glendive, Circle, Richey, Fairview, and Wibaux may see up to an inch of snow along with a light glaze of ice. While snowfall totals will be modest, even a thin layer of ice can make highways, county roads, bridges, and overpasses dangerously slick.

The greatest impacts are expected overnight into Monday morning, with continued travel concerns possible into the late afternoon as temperatures hover near freezing. Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use extra caution, especially on untreated roads. Pedestrians should also watch for icy sidewalks and steps.

Road conditions can change quickly, and travelers are encouraged to check 5-1-1 before heading out. The advisory is set to expire Monday evening, though isolated slick spots could linger after precipitation ends.
