Great Falls, MT – A winter storm will bring heavy snowfall and strong winds to southwestern and central Montana from Friday afternoon through Saturday night, making travel hazardous across multiple regions.
According to the National Weather Service in Great Falls, snow accumulations will range from 2 to 12 inches depending on elevation, with the heaviest totals expected along the Continental Divide. Wind gusts could reach up to 65 mph in the East Glacier Park Region, significantly reducing visibility.
The most affected areas include the Madison and Beaverhead River Valleys, the Rocky Mountain Front, and the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains. Mountain passes such as Marias, Rogers, and Kings Hill could experience difficult driving conditions, with tire chain requirements possible.
Snowfall rates may reach up to 2 inches per hour in some locations, particularly overnight Friday into Saturday. The storm is expected to ease by late Saturday night.
Drivers are advised to use caution and check road conditions by calling 511 or visiting the Montana Department of Transportation website. Residents should prepare for possible power outages due to falling tree branches.
