Great Falls, MT – Residents across central Montana, including Fergus and Judith Basin counties, should prepare for hazardous winter weather starting early Tuesday. Blowing snow and strong gusts up to 50 mph are expected to reduce visibility and create dangerous driving conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 2 a.m. Tuesday to 5 p.m. for the initial wave of blowing snow. A second advisory begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, bringing 1 to 3 inches of snow to low elevations and up to 9 inches in mountain regions, lasting until 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Additional areas, including the Bears Paw Mountains, are under advisories predicting 4 to 8 inches of snow with gusts reaching 45 mph. The Snowy and Judith Mountains could see heavier accumulations, with up to 15 inches possible during a Winter Storm Watch that begins Tuesday evening.

Travelers are advised to use caution, especially on bridges and overpasses, which are likely to become slick. Road updates are available via Montana’s 511 hotline or MDT’s Road Report website.

Stay alert for rapidly changing conditions and prepare for reduced visibility during commutes.
