Helena, MT – Montana residents are preparing for significant snowfall as winter weather advisories take effect across the state Friday afternoon. Forecasters predict snow accumulations of up to 10 inches in some areas, impacting travel through Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, advisories are active from 2 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday. The highest snowfall is expected along ridgetops and mountain passes, including the Gallatin, Madison, and Big Belt mountains. Helena Valley may see up to 3 inches, while Red Lodge and Beartooth foothills could receive between 2 and 6 inches.
Drivers should expect hazardous road conditions, particularly during evening and morning commutes. Authorities advise slowing down and checking updated road conditions through Montana’s 511 system or the Department of Transportation’s website.
Outdoor enthusiasts are urged to dress warmly, as temperatures will plummet alongside accumulating snow. Recreational areas above 5,000 feet, including Lost Trail and MacDonald Passes, could see snow totals nearing 7 inches.
Montanans are reminded to prepare for winter weather impacts, use caution while traveling, and monitor local forecasts for updates.
