Glasgow, MT – Montana residents are urged to prepare for hazardous travel conditions as freezing rain is expected to hit parts of the state Sunday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Glasgow has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Phillips, Valley, and surrounding counties.

According to the NWS, freezing rain will begin as early as 2 a.m. Sunday and continue until 11 a.m., bringing up to one-tenth of an inch of ice accumulation. This weather pattern is likely to create slippery roads and sidewalks, increasing the risk of accidents. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds, allow extra travel time, and avoid non-essential travel during peak icing hours.

Additional advisories extend to northeastern Montana, including Roosevelt and Sheridan counties, where freezing rain is expected between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday. The affected areas include key roadways such as U.S. Route 2 and Montana Highway 13, where icy conditions may disrupt commutes and holiday travel.

Looking ahead, conditions will improve by Sunday night, with clearer skies and temperatures near 18°F. Early next week, the region is forecast to experience milder weather, with highs near 40°F and partly sunny skies by Christmas Day.

Residents should remain cautious and stay informed of updates from the NWS and Montana Department of Transportation. Road condition updates can be accessed by dialing 511.
