Helena, Mont. – Snowfall is expected to make travel treacherous across southwest Montana’s high elevations tonight, with up to 6 inches possible on mountain passes through Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Great Falls, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 8 p.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Tuesday for the Elkhorn and Boulder Mountains, as well as mountainous areas in Beaverhead, Gallatin, and Madison counties. Snow totals of 3 to 6 inches are forecast above 7,000 feet, with isolated higher amounts near Pony.
Travel across high routes like Monida Pass, Raynolds Pass, Homestake Pass, and Chief Joseph Pass may become hazardous as snow accumulates. The advisory also includes areas near Big Sky, West Yellowstone, and Wisdom, where early morning drivers could encounter slick or snow-covered roads.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check road conditions before heading out. Those living or traveling through mountain communities such as Boulder, Montana City, and Corbin should prepare for rapidly changing conditions overnight.
The advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday, with additional warnings possible if snowfall intensifies. Stay tuned to local alerts for updates.
