Billings, MT – High winds are forecast across the Montana plains today, with gusts reaching 50 to 60 mph in Fallon and Carter Counties. Motorists traveling along I-94 are urged to exercise caution, as gusty conditions are expected to create dangerous travel situations through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, winds will reach their peak this afternoon, potentially disrupting transportation and unsecured structures. In areas outside Fallon and Carter Counties, gusts of 20 to 40 mph are expected to taper off by tonight. Authorities recommend securing loose outdoor items and delaying non-essential travel on high-risk routes, including I-94 and U.S. Route 212.

The wind-driven impacts will persist into Wednesday, with the strongest winds occurring in exposed areas near the Dakota border. Residents should monitor local updates and prepare for potential power outages or hazardous road conditions.

The five-day forecast for Billings shows a sunny but windy Wednesday with a high of 39°F. Winds will calm by Wednesday night, with lows dipping to 23°F under partly cloudy skies. Thursday is expected to bring sunny skies and a high near 47°F with light winds, followed by a slight chance of rain or snow showers Saturday morning.
