Billings, Montana – Powerful wind gusts are already developing this morning, with crosswinds strong enough to impact high-profile vehicles and potentially disrupt travel along major routes like I-90 within the next few hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, winds west of the city are expected to peak between 50 and 70 mph, particularly near Livingston, Big Timber, and Harlowton, where there is up to a 30 percent chance of gusts exceeding 70 mph. These ძლიერი winds will spread eastward across the plains by midday, bringing widespread gusts of 30 to 45 mph into Billings and surrounding communities.
Travel conditions may deteriorate quickly, especially for semitrucks, RVs, and other high-profile vehicles navigating open stretches of highway. Strong crosswinds could also impact secondary roads and exposed areas, with blowing debris reducing visibility at times.
At the same time, temperatures are climbing rapidly into the 60s and 70s, accelerating snowmelt across lower elevations. While flooding risk remains low, minor rises in creeks and streams are possible through midweek.
Drivers are urged to use caution, keep both hands on the wheel, and avoid unnecessary travel through wind-prone corridors. Wind impacts are expected to ease later মঙ্গলবার evening, but additional advisories could follow if gusts remain elevated.
