Billings, Montana – Drivers across south-central Montana could face dangerous travel conditions through Wednesday as powerful crosswinds continue to sweep across the I-90 corridor, especially impacting high-profile vehicles from Livingston to Harlowton.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, strong west to southwest winds will persist through Wednesday, with peak gusts ranging from 55 to 70 mph in wind-prone areas. The strongest winds are expected from Livingston east toward Big Timber and Harlowton, where the risk of blowovers remains elevated through at least midday Wednesday.
Livingston will stay windy overnight with little relief, while a brief lull is expected late Tuesday night from Big Timber to Harlowton before winds ramp back up again Wednesday morning. Along Interstate 90 and Highway 191, crosswinds could make driving difficult for semis, campers, and vehicles towing trailers. Motorists are urged to reduce speed, keep both hands on the wheel, and consider delaying travel if driving high-profile vehicles.
Wind gusts exceeding 60 mph remain likely in Livingston, with an 80% chance, while Big Timber faces a 70% chance and Harlowton around 50%. Local transportation officials continue to monitor conditions closely.
Wind advisories remain in effect through Wednesday, and additional alerts may be issued if gusts intensify or travel impacts worsen.
