Billings, MT – Above-average temperatures are returning to south-central Montana for the first half of the workweek, bringing a mix of snowmelt, slushy conditions, and potential slick spots, according to forecasters.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, warmer-than-normal temperatures through Wednesday will lead to rapid snowmelt, especially in lower elevations and valley locations. Daytime melting is expected to create wet and slushy roads, while localized slick patches may redevelop overnight and during the early morning hours as melted snow refreezes.

Monday is forecast to be mostly sunny, with high temperatures ranging from 40 to 55 degrees, well above seasonal averages. Tuesday remains partly cloudy and windy, with highs again reaching the 40s to mid-50s, continuing the melting trend.

By Wednesday, conditions turn more unsettled, with mixed precipitation possible and very windy conditions developing. High temperatures are expected to remain mild, but gusty winds could reduce visibility at times, especially in open and rural areas.

The pattern begins to cool later in the week. Thursday brings partly sunny skies with a chance for isolated snow showers, and highs dropping back into the 20s to 40s, signaling a return toward more seasonable conditions.

Forecasters caution that while widespread flooding is not expected, ponding of water, slushy intersections, and icy patches during morning commutes are possible throughout the week. Drivers are urged to slow down, especially during early morning and nighttime hours.

Residents should remain weather-aware as rapidly changing temperatures can lead to variable road conditions.
