GLASGOW, Mont. – A surge of colder air will sweep into northeast Montana late Thursday, bringing gusty winds and a noticeable drop in temperatures heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a low-pressure system over southern Canada will tighten pressure gradients across the region Thursday, producing widespread winds of 25–35 mph and gusts up to 40 mph, especially across the Missouri River Breaks and open prairie areas.

The strongest winds are expected Thursday afternoon through early evening before easing overnight. Behind the system, colder Canadian air will spill south, sending highs down into the lower 40s and overnight lows into the 20s by Friday. Locations such as Glendive, Jordan, and Malta will see daytime highs in the 40s to low 50s Thursday, falling further Friday as the chill deepens.

While no precipitation is expected, the wind and falling temperatures will make it feel several degrees colder. Drivers on U.S. Highways 2 and 24 should use caution in crosswinds, especially high-profile vehicles.

Forecasters expect calmer but seasonably cool conditions through the weekend, with highs rebounding slightly into the 50s by Sunday under mostly sunny skies.
