Light snow will affect parts of northeast Montana today through Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Glasgow.
Most of the activity will occur south of Highway 2, with accumulations generally under one inch. Snowfall will be most likely near and south of the Missouri River, including areas around Glasgow, Jordan, and Circle.
Daytime temperatures are expected to warm above freezing, which will help minimize travel impacts during daylight hours. However, as the sun sets this evening, roads that remain wet or slushy could refreeze, creating slick travel conditions overnight.
Forecasters note that this is part of a weak weather disturbance, with no significant storm impacts expected. Light snow showers will taper off by Wednesday morning, followed by partly cloudy skies and continued cool temperatures through midweek.
High temperatures today will reach the upper 30s to low 40s, with overnight lows dipping into the 20s. Winds will remain light to moderate, keeping wind chills near seasonal levels.
Motorists traveling across northeast Montana tonight should use caution, particularly on untreated or elevated road surfaces, where refreezing is most likely.
Looking ahead, a brief warming trend is expected later this week before another cold front moves through by the weekend, potentially bringing more widespread snow chances and colder air into early next week.
Even with minor snowfall totals, the combination of melting and refreezing could still create hazardous travel conditions overnight — especially in rural areas south of Highway 2.
