Glasgow, MT – Residents in northeast Montana are bracing for a sharp drop in temperatures and the potential for snow as a cold front moves in this weekend. Blustery conditions will dominate Friday evening, with gusts reaching 34 mph, and a mix of snow and extreme cold is expected through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service, a 30% chance of snow Friday morning will give way to falling temperatures throughout the day, hitting a low of 0°F by evening. Gusty northwest winds will keep wind chill values between 5°F and -10°F, especially along Highway 2. Motorists should exercise caution as visibility may reduce in snow showers.
Saturday is set to be another bitterly cold day, with temperatures hovering around 11°F during the day and dropping to -16°F overnight. The winds will subside slightly, but sub-zero wind chills as low as -20°F will persist, making outdoor exposure dangerous.
Sunday will bring some sunshine but no relief from the cold, with a high of just 1°F and a nighttime low of -19°F. Blustery conditions could make roads icy, so drivers should prepare for slower commutes.
Looking ahead to Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, temperatures will reach a high of 1°F under mostly sunny skies before another round of snow showers may develop Tuesday.
Residents are advised to bundle up, limit time outdoors, and check on vulnerable neighbors or pets as the Arctic air grips the region. Road crews will be out, but drivers should prepare for slick spots, especially in the mornings.
