Missoula, MT – Western Montana travelers should be prepared for frequent snow showers and dangerous travel over mountain passes through Thanksgiving week, according to updated national weather maps from the Weather Prediction Center.

According to the WPC, a series of disturbances will move across the northern Rockies beginning Wednesday, spreading snow across mountain areas and portions of the valleys. Communities including Missoula, Kalispell, Hamilton, Whitefish, and the Bitterroot Valley may see scattered showers, while heavier snow targets higher elevations. Lookout Pass (I-90) and Lolo Pass (US-12) are likely to see accumulating snow and periods of reduced visibility throughout the day.

Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 27, 2025) will bring continued snow showers to the region as colder air deepens across the northern Rockies. The Flathead Valley, including Kalispell and Columbia Falls, may experience light snow or flurries. Heavier snow is possible across the mountains surrounding Glacier National Park and north along Highway 93 toward Eureka. Roads at higher elevations could be slick or snow-covered for much of the day, with blowing snow in exposed areas.

By Black Friday (November 28, 2025), additional energy aloft will keep snow chances alive across Western Montana. Early shoppers and holiday travelers may face icy patches on untreated roads, especially in the morning. Mountain pass travel—including Lookout Pass, Lolo Pass, and Marias Pass along US-2—is expected to remain hazardous, with continued snow and gusty winds.

Travelers should plan for extended drive times, monitor updated advisories, and prepare for winter driving conditions across both valleys and high elevations through the entire holiday period.
