Glasgow, Mont. – Eastern Montana faces a sharp weather shift this weekend as a fall cold front brings gusty winds, cooler air, and showers Saturday into Sunday. The strongest impacts are expected Saturday afternoon through Sunday night, with travelers urged to prepare for reduced visibility and hazardous driving in open country.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, winds Saturday will increase from the north at 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. A 40 percent chance of rain showers is forecast by afternoon, lasting into the night with overnight lows around 40. Sunday stays cooler, topping out in the mid-50s, with northwest winds gusting up to 28 mph.

The weather change follows a brief warmup Friday, when highs may reach 80 degrees under partly sunny skies. By late Saturday, however, the front is expected to push through, dropping daytime highs nearly 15 degrees and producing scattered showers. According to Montana DOT, winds may make travel on U.S. Highway 2 and MT-24 difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

Residents should secure outdoor items, protect fall plants, and prepare for chilly nights as lows dip into the 30s early next week. Sunday night and Monday remain breezy before calmer, sunnier conditions return Tuesday and Wednesday. NWS advises keeping extra layers on hand for football games, outdoor work, and livestock care.
