Glasgow, MT – An Arctic air mass is gripping northern Montana this weekend, prompting Cold Weather Advisories for multiple counties as wind chills are expected to plunge as low as 35 below zero through Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Glasgow and Great Falls, the advisory covers Phillips, Valley, Roosevelt, Daniels, Sheridan, Hill, and Blaine Counties, including communities such as Glasgow, Havre, Chinook, Malta, and Plentywood.
Wind chills between 25 and 35 below zero are forecast beginning Saturday evening, lasting through 10 a.m. Monday. The most extreme cold will occur overnight Saturday and Sunday, with little temperature recovery during the day Sunday.
Officials warn that frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 10 to 30 minutes, and prolonged exposure could lead to hypothermia. Residents are urged to bundle up, limit time outdoors, and ensure pets and livestock have shelter, food, and unfrozen water.
Travelers should also use caution, as vehicle issues can become life-threatening quickly in such extreme cold.
