Billings, MT – The National Weather Service in Billings is forecasting a major shift in Montana’s weather pattern heading into the weekend. After several warm and dry days, conditions are expected to turn cooler and wetter, particularly in mountain areas.

According to the NWS early Wednesday morning, temperatures will remain above normal through Friday, with many locations seeing highs in the upper 60s to 70s. However, a pattern change late Friday will bring unsettled weather across much of the region.

Forecasters say mountain areas could see their first significant snowfall of the season. There’s a 30–50% chance of six inches or more of snow this weekend, especially in the higher elevations near Red Lodge and Beartooth Pass. Travelers and outdoor enthusiasts are urged to plan ahead and check road conditions before heading into the high country.

The agency notes that while confidence is high for snow accumulation in the mountains, uncertainty remains in the extent of impacts to lower elevations. Rain is expected to develop across much of the region, with cooler temperatures continuing into early next week.
