Great Falls, MT – A fresh blast of winter weather is targeting Montana’s mountain regions, with Kings Hill Pass expected to see up to 9 inches of snow by early Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Great Falls, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from noon Sunday through 6 a.m. Monday for the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains, including the towns of Neihart and Monarch. Snowfall totals are projected between 4 to 9 inches, with wind gusts reaching 50 mph, especially over Kings Hill Pass.
Road conditions are expected to worsen Sunday afternoon as warming pavement causes slushy accumulation. As temperatures drop in the evening, wet roads could refreeze, creating hazardous driving conditions. Snow is likely to accumulate more significantly on grassy and non-paved surfaces during the daytime hours.
Travelers are urged to use caution and reduce speed, particularly along U.S. Highway 89. Slippery conditions and reduced visibility may impact travel through higher elevations.
Montana Department of Transportation recommends checking current road conditions by dialing 511 or visiting the MDT Road Report website before heading out.
Residents and drivers should be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions and take necessary precautions through the Monday morning commute.
