Billings, Montana – Thunderstorms and hazy skies could disrupt weekend plans across southern Montana, with the potential for strong to severe storms continuing into next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, isolated severe thunderstorms are possible Friday afternoon and evening in southern Montana and northern Wyoming. Daily storm chances will persist through Tuesday, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours. Some areas may also see hazy skies due to wildfire smoke drifting in from the west.
Billings, Big Timber, and Hardin face up to a 40% chance of thunderstorms Friday, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s. Weekend highs will stay warm across the region—reaching 90°F in Miles City and Broadus—before slightly cooler weather sets in Monday.
Drivers should be cautious on highways like I-90 and US-212, where visibility could be reduced by smoke and storms. Residents are urged to monitor alerts and stay weather-aware, especially during peak storm hours from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The stormy pattern is expected to continue into early next week, with a gradual cooldown beginning Monday. Additional advisories could be issued if severe weather develops.
