Zortman, MT – A fast-moving weather system is expected to bring a mix of snow and intense winds to Southwest Phillips County early Sunday, creating hazardous travel conditions for residents in and around Zortman.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. MDT on Sunday. Forecasters predict up to 2 inches of snow will fall across the Little Rockies, accompanied by wind gusts reaching 55 mph. Visibility may drop to a half mile at times, especially at higher elevations, due to blowing snow.

Travelers along Highway 191 and surrounding roads should prepare for slick and potentially icy surfaces. While lower elevations may see only a trace of snow, the combination of wind and snow at higher altitudes could cause near whiteout conditions. The storm may also lead to downed tree limbs due to the force of the wind.

Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution. Road condition updates are available by dialing 511. Residents should secure outdoor items and prepare for sudden weather shifts throughout the day.

This storm follows a period of relatively mild spring conditions, highlighting the region’s susceptibility to late-season winter weather.
