Billings, Montana – Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected across central and southern Montana from 2 to 10 p.m. Monday, bringing threats of large hail, damaging winds, and brief heavy rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, areas including Billings, Miles City, Bozeman, and Lewistown sit under a Level 2 (Slight) risk for severe weather. The primary concerns are wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail as large as 1 inch in diameter. There’s also a small but notable 2% chance of an isolated tornado.
Communities in the yellow-shaded zone on the latest storm outlook should prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Outdoor events may need to be delayed or moved indoors, especially from mid-afternoon through evening hours. Storms are expected to initiate over the mountains and track eastward.
Drivers should use caution on I-90 and US-212, especially near Laurel, Hardin, and Broadus, where sudden downpours could reduce visibility. Residents are urged to secure loose objects and have multiple ways to receive alerts.
Warnings remain possible throughout the evening, with another update expected by early Tuesday morning.
