Billings, Mont. – Rain, mountain snow, and a threat of localized flooding will return to much of Montana Sunday through Monday as another spring storm system sweeps across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, the system will bring rain to lower elevations and snow to higher terrain above 6,000 to 9,000 feet, accompanied by gusty winds and cooler temperatures. Thunderstorms on Sunday may produce heavy rainfall over already saturated soils, raising the risk of flash flooding in vulnerable areas.
Cities including Billings (55% chance of 1+ inches of precipitation), Red Lodge (50%), and Lame Deer (57%) could see moderate precipitation, with similar conditions stretching east into Miles City and Glendive. Snow accumulation at higher elevations may impact travel along routes like the Beartooth Highway, where snow removal operations could be delayed.
Outdoor activities could be affected, and residents are urged to monitor river levels, especially near small streams prone to overflow. Anyone in flood-prone or mountainous areas should prepare for quickly changing conditions.
The storm is expected to taper off by late Monday, but additional advisories could be issued if rainfall intensifies or snow persists. Travelers and outdoor enthusiasts should stay updated at weather.gov/billings.
