Glasgow, MT – A sharp northwest wind sweeps across the plains this morning, stirring whitecaps on Fort Peck Lake and sending waves crashing along rocky shorelines. The National Weather Service in Glasgow has issued a Lake Wind Advisory through 8 p.m. MDT, warning that gusts up to 35 mph could make conditions hazardous for small craft and recreational boaters.

According to the advisory, northwest winds between 15 and 25 mph will persist through the afternoon before slowly easing late tonight. Those planning to fish, boat, or travel along Fort Peck Lake should use extreme caution or avoid open water until winds subside. Strong gusts could easily overturn or swamp small vessels, especially in exposed areas.

Thursday brings slightly calmer weather but breezy conditions will linger through midday, followed by clearing skies and highs in the upper 40s to near 50°F. By Friday, Montana enters a short-lived warmup with sunny skies and highs reaching the low 60s by the weekend — ideal for outdoor cleanup or Halloween events before temperatures trend cooler again next week.

Looking ahead, early November weather models hint at colder air returning from Canada, possibly introducing Montana’s first widespread snow chances of the season between November 9 and 18. For now, residents across the Glasgow and Fort Peck region can expect a brief lull — but winter’s first grip may be just around the corner.
