Glasgow, MT – Boaters on Fort Peck Lake should prepare for dangerous conditions beginning late Sunday night as strong winds move across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Lake Wind Advisory is in effect from midnight Sunday until 6 p.m. Monday, September 22. Forecasters expect northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, creating rough waves and hazardous conditions for small craft.

The advisory affects portions of Phillips, Valley, Petroleum, Garfield, and McCone counties, including communities such as Glasgow, Jordan, Malta, Circle, and Winnett.

Officials warn that strong winds and high waves could capsize smaller boats. Boaters are urged to use extreme caution, wear life jackets, and consider postponing trips until conditions improve.

Weather conditions on the lake are expected to remain rough throughout the day Monday before gradually easing in the evening. Those planning to be on or near Fort Peck Lake are advised to monitor updates and exercise caution.
