Glasgow, Montana — Strong southeast winds are sweeping across northeastern Montana this morning, creating hazardous boating conditions on Fort Peck Lake and breezy travel along Highway 2. The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Wind Advisory through 9 p.m. Friday, warning of gusts up to 30 mph and waves as high as four feet.

According to the National Weather Service office in Glasgow, winds between 18 and 28 mph will whip across the region through this evening before calming late tonight. Boaters are urged to delay trips or use extreme caution, as strong gusts and rough waters could capsize small craft. Drivers should also brace for crosswinds, especially along open stretches of Highway 24 and U.S. 2 near Hinsdale and Malta.

Saturday brings a shift to northwest winds with scattered showers and cooler air filtering in by evening. Sunday looks breezy and noticeably cooler, with highs near 52 °F and clouds lingering through the afternoon — a clear sign that fall has arrived across the Hi-Line.

Residents planning weekend pumpkin patch trips or early Halloween decorating can expect improving conditions by Monday, when skies turn mostly sunny again. Cooler nights next week could bring the region’s first light frost as mid-October temperatures settle back into the 30s.
