GLASGOW, Mont. – Gusty winds are whipping across eastern Montana today, with a Lake Wind Advisory in effect through 9 p.m. for Fort Peck Lake and nearby communities. West winds of 15 to 25 mph, gusting up to 45 mph, are creating rough waves and hazardous boating conditions.
The National Weather Service in Glasgow urges boaters to use extreme caution. Waves could reach 4 feet, capable of overturning small craft or pushing them into shallow waters. Those traveling along Highway 24 near Fort Peck should expect strong crosswinds, especially on bridges and open stretches near the lake. Outdoor enthusiasts are advised to secure tents, decorations, and lightweight objects that could be blown around.
While the winds ease late tonight, cooler air moves in behind the front. Saturday will be breezy and partly sunny, with highs near 57°F and a few light rain chances developing by late afternoon. Sunday brings slightly warmer conditions but remains unsettled, with a few passing showers possible before clearer skies return Monday.
The region looks dry and seasonable through midweek, providing excellent fall conditions for fishing, hiking, and harvest work once the winds die down. Expect highs in the 60s by Monday, with plenty of sunshine and calmer breezes returning to the Fort Peck area.
