Great Falls, MT – Residents of Montana’s Rocky Mountain Front and adjacent plains should prepare for extreme winds as a High Wind Watch remains in effect from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Great Falls, southwest winds could reach sustained speeds of 40 to 50 mph, with gusts as high as 80 mph along the Rocky Mountain Front. In the surrounding plains, including Eastern Glacier, Western Toole, and Central Pondera Counties, winds are expected to reach 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph.

The strongest winds are forecast from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon, posing a risk of power outages, property damage, and hazardous travel conditions. High-profile vehicles may face significant challenges, particularly on open roadways and mountain passes such as Marias Pass and Rogers Pass.

Additionally, brief periods of strong wind gusts are possible through early Saturday morning and again late Saturday evening into early Sunday.

Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects, prepare for potential power outages, and stay updated on the latest forecasts. Authorities caution that high winds can create dangerous conditions, and travelers should exercise caution, particularly in exposed areas.

For the latest updates, monitor the National Weather Service and local emergency management alerts.
