Billings, MT – A cooler and wetter weather system is forecast to sweep across Montana beginning late Friday and lasting through Monday, bringing widespread rain and the potential for mountain snowfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, there is a high chance of measurable rainfall, with many areas showing a 60–80% probability of receiving at least half an inch of precipitation by Sunday night. The heaviest impacts are expected in southern and central Montana, including Billings, Red Lodge, and Livingston.

The system could also bring freezing overnight lows on Sunday and Monday nights, particularly across the foothills and lower valleys. Forecasters warn this may affect agriculture, with the fall harvest at risk of delays due to soggy fields and colder temperatures.

Mountain areas above 6,000 feet are expected to see accumulating snow beginning Saturday, with moderate to heavy snowfall possible. Travelers and outdoor recreationists should prepare for changing road and trail conditions in the Beartooth and Absaroka ranges.

The NWS cautions that uncertainty remains in the exact track of the system, meaning forecast adjustments are possible later this week. Residents are advised to monitor weather updates closely, especially if planning travel or agricultural work this weekend.
