GLASGOW, Mont. – Residents across northeast Montana will endure dangerous heat through Wednesday evening as temperatures soar past 100 degrees, prompting a heat advisory across much of the Hi-Line region.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, highs between 95 and 105 degrees are expected from Fort Peck to Plentywood, with the advisory in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The hot, dry stretch will push car interiors to lethal temperatures in minutes and increase risks of heat exhaustion and stroke.
Communities including Glasgow, Circle, Malta, and Glendive are likely to see some of the most extreme heat, with little relief until late Wednesday night when storms may cool parts of the region. Road crews, ranchers, and outdoor workers are urged to schedule breaks in shade and drink water frequently. Officials warn young children and pets should never be left in vehicles.
Lightweight clothing, early morning activity, and checking on elderly neighbors are among the recommended safety steps. Emergency officials stress that heat stroke is life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention.
The advisory remains active until Wednesday evening, with the chance of scattered thunderstorms returning by midweek. Additional alerts could follow if high heat lingers into the weekend.
