Glasgow, MT – Boaters on Fort Peck Lake face hazardous conditions Monday as strong northwest winds and rough waves build through the evening. The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Wind Advisory in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., warning of wind speeds between 15 and 25 mph and gusts approaching 30 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, wave heights could reach up to three feet, creating dangerous conditions for small craft. The advisory covers much of eastern Montana, including Glasgow, Jordan, Circle, Fort Peck, and surrounding communities. Those planning to be on the water should secure gear, wear life jackets, and consider postponing trips until winds ease tonight.
While Tuesday will bring calmer winds, widespread haze is expected between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., followed by sunny skies and highs in the mid-80s. The rest of the week trends warm and dry, with temperatures climbing into the low 90s by Wednesday and Thursday, making for safer lake conditions but hotter afternoons.
Lake wind threats will diminish after Monday evening, but boaters should continue to monitor local alerts before heading out.
