GLASGOW, Mont. – Fall winds are stirring up trouble across northeast Montana today as strong north gusts whip Fort Peck Lake, making travel and boating hazardous through Sunday evening. The National Weather Service in Glasgow has a Lake Wind Advisory in effect until 6 p.m. MDT, warning of rough conditions and waves up to three feet.

According to the National Weather Service Glasgow office, sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph—with gusts near 30 mph—will ease by late evening. Boaters are urged to use extreme caution, as strong winds could capsize small craft. Drivers along US-2 and area highways may encounter crosswinds and reduced control on higher-profile vehicles.

By Monday, calmer weather and abundant sunshine will return, ushering in a stretch of mild fall days. Highs will climb into the 60s Monday and reach the low to mid-70s by midweek, giving residents a chance to tackle outdoor projects, decorate for Halloween, or enjoy fall foliage near the Missouri River.

NWS forecasters expect mostly clear nights with temperatures dipping into the upper 30s and lower 40s. No major precipitation or frost threats are expected through Thursday. The pattern looks ideal for early-season harvest work, pumpkin-patch visits, and evening walks under crisp skies.

Residents should secure outdoor items before winds peak and keep life jackets on board if boating today. Calmer, warmer conditions will dominate the upcoming workweek.
