Billings, MT – The National Weather Service in Billings is warning residents to prepare for a chilly, unsettled start to the week as a cold front pushes through early Sunday, bringing a mix of rain and wet snow across portions of south-central and southeastern Montana.
According to the latest update issued Saturday afternoon, precipitation chances increase Sunday morning and persist through Tuesday, with most areas seeing 20–45% odds of rain or snow showers depending on elevation and timing. Areas near Livingston, Red Lodge, and Big Timber could see brief periods of a wintry mix late Sunday night into Monday morning, while lower elevations, including Billings and Miles City, will likely experience mostly light rain.
Temperatures will fall behind the front, with daytime highs dropping into the 40s and low 50s and overnight lows dipping toward freezing by Monday night. The NWS notes that while no major accumulation is expected, slick spots may develop on bridges and higher terrain during early morning hours.
Forecasters say the system should exit by late Tuesday, allowing for a gradual warming trend and drier conditions through the middle of the week.
