Glasgow, Montana – A fresh surge of winter weather is creating slick roads and reduced visibility across northeast Montana today as light snow and gusty winds move through the region, raising travel concerns through the late afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 p.m. for McCone, Richland, Dawson, Prairie and Wibaux counties. A passing cold front is bringing periods of light snow, with totals generally ranging from 1 to 3 inches, especially across higher terrain near the Yellowstone River Valley.
While snowfall amounts are modest, northwest winds gusting between 15 and 25 mph are expected to produce areas of blowing snow. These conditions may sharply reduce visibility at times, particularly on open stretches of highway and rural roads. Drivers along U.S. Highway 2, Highway 24 and surrounding county roads should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
Statewide, the most significant impacts are expected in northeast Montana, including communities such as Glasgow, Circle, Sidney and Glendive. Snow-covered roads and drifting snow could make travel hazardous, especially for high-profile vehicles.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time and check road conditions before heading out. Officials note that conditions should gradually improve later this evening as winds ease, but additional rounds of winter weather remain possible as the active pattern continues across eastern Montana.
