Billings, Montana – Strong winds and warming temperatures will be the primary weather story across eastern Montana through midweek before more seasonable conditions return later this week.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, temperatures will trend warmer and conditions will remain mainly dry through Tuesday. The biggest concern will be increasingly breezy weather, especially west of Billings on Tuesday before stronger winds spread east across the region Wednesday.
Communities including Billings, Miles City, Sheridan, Broadus and Roundup are expected to see temperatures climb into the 80s through midweek. Billings is forecast to reach 80 degrees Monday, 88 degrees Tuesday and 85 degrees Wednesday before cooling later in the week. Miles City could reach 86 degrees Tuesday and 81 degrees Wednesday.
Across Montana – Wyoming border communities, west to northwest wind gusts of 35 to 50 mph are expected Tuesday and Wednesday. These stronger winds may create difficult travel conditions for high-profile vehicles on Interstate 90, Interstate 94 and exposed east-west roadways. Loose outdoor objects could also be blown around during the strongest gusts.
While much of the region remains dry through Tuesday, the National Weather Service indicates light precipitation may develop across east-central and eastern Montana late Tuesday into Wednesday. Rain chances remain relatively low, but cities including Miles City, Baker, Glendive and Broadus could see scattered showers as the weather pattern shifts.
The combination of warm temperatures, dry conditions and gusty winds may elevate grassland fire concerns in some locations, particularly where vegetation has dried. Residents should use caution with outdoor burning and follow any local fire restrictions.
Conditions are expected to become more seasonable late in the week as temperatures cool back into the 70s and winds gradually diminish. Additional advisories may be issued if wind forecasts increase or fire weather concerns develop across eastern Montana.
