Billings, MT – Strong crosswinds are forecast to impact travel across southern Montana from Friday night through Sunday morning, with gusts expected to reach 45 to 55 mph near Livingston and Nye, according to the National Weather Service Billings.

The strongest winds will develop late Friday night around 3 a.m. and continue through Saturday night, affecting areas west of Billings and along Interstate 90 between Big Timber and Livingston. Breezy conditions are also likely along US-191 between Big Timber and Harlowton, where gusts could reach 35 to 45 mph.

Forecasters warn that high-profile vehicles, such as trucks and trailers, may encounter hazardous driving conditions due to strong crosswinds. Motorists are advised to delay travel or seek alternate routes, particularly during peak gust periods.

The National Weather Service notes that conditions will gradually improve by early Sunday as the winds ease. However, travelers should remain alert for blowing dust and sudden wind shifts along open highway stretches.
