Glasgow, Montana – Drivers across northeast Montana have less than 24 hours to prepare before snow and gusty winds begin affecting highways by 8 a.m. Friday, creating slick stretches in time for the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 8 a.m. Friday until 11 a.m. Saturday for Phillips, Valley, Petroleum, Garfield, McCone, Dawson, Prairie and Wibaux counties. Forecasters expect 1 to 4 inches of snow, with wind gusts reaching 30 mph. The combination may reduce visibility and create drifting on open roads.

Communities including Glasgow, Malta, Jordan, Glendive, Terry, Circle, Wibaux and Winnett could see steady light snow through Friday night. Overpasses and untreated rural routes, especially along U.S. Highway 2, Montana Highway 200 and stretches of Montana Highway 13, may turn slick quickly as temperatures remain below freezing.

Friday evening travel carries the highest impact window, particularly across central and southern Valley County and into Dawson and Prairie counties. Drivers should allow extra time, reduce speeds and check Montana 511 for updated road conditions. Keep emergency kits in vehicles and ensure phones are fully charged before heading out.

Light snow may linger into late Saturday morning before tapering, but slick spots could persist beyond 11 a.m. Additional advisories are possible if snowfall totals trend higher.
