Glasgow, MT – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for northeast Montana, including Glasgow, from Thursday evening through Saturday morning, as a potent winter system threatens to bring heavy snow, gusty winds, and reduced visibility, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Glasgow.
Forecasters expect snowfall totals between 4 and 14 inches, with the heaviest accumulation forecast in the southwestern part of the watch area. Winds could gust up to 30 mph, producing blowing and drifting snow that may lead to whiteout conditions on open stretches of road.
The NWS warns that travel may become very difficult or hazardous, particularly on U.S. Highway 2 and Montana Highway 24, where visibility could drop below one-quarter mile at times. Even slight shifts in the storm track could significantly impact where the heaviest snow falls.
Meteorologists describe “moderate to high confidence” in the storm’s potential to disrupt transportation across much of the Hi-Line and eastern plains. Snow is expected to begin Thursday night, intensify on Friday, and taper off early Saturday.
Residents are urged to prepare now by securing emergency supplies, checking travel plans, and allowing extra time for commutes. Snowplow crews and emergency services may have limited access during periods of heavy snowfall and low visibility.
The NWS continues to monitor the system closely and advises staying updated with the latest forecast at weather.gov/ggw.
