Glasgow, Mont. – Cooler air has settled into Montana today, but shifting winds and drying conditions could quickly elevate fire danger across eastern parts of the state by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, temperatures will stay near seasonal levels through Sunday before gradually warming into the upper 50s and low 60s by Tuesday and Wednesday. While light precipitation chances return early in the week, many areas could see little to no measurable rainfall, especially across northeast Montana.

Communities including Glasgow, Jordan, Sidney, and Plentywood may see only a 15 to 35 percent chance of precipitation through Tuesday, with several locations trending dry by Wednesday. Winds increasing midweek will combine with dry grasses to create elevated fire weather concerns, particularly along U.S. Highway 2 and surrounding rural areas.

Daytime highs will range from the low 50s Sunday to near 60°F by midweek, with overnight lows dipping into the 30s and low 40s. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and secure equipment that could spark fires as winds pick up.

Conditions remain mostly dry through late week, with only isolated chances for light precipitation. Additional advisories may be issued as fire risk increases into Wednesday and beyond.
